  1. Set this problem up like a mixture problem...
    Use a table, if necessary, similar to that on page 78, Example 9; except instead of percent concentration, you have temperature.

    Quantities Temp. Amounts Expression
    First 102 F g gallons 102 F *g
    Second 91 F 25 gal. 91 F *25
    Total 97 F 25+g gal. 97 F *(25+g)

    Notice how we just multiply each quantity by its corresponding temperature. Then in the total amounts column, we add the amount of each together to get the total. We have one missing variable, so we put these together in an equation and solve for the missing variable like such:

    102*g + 91*g = 97*g

    When you have solved for g, you have answered the question. I will leave the calculations to the reader!
